Vernam; summer bungalows, hotels and amusements once lined the boardwalk. The rebuilt concrete boardwalk, completed in 2017 after Hurricane Sandy, now runs past the city's only legal surfing beaches, between Beach 67th and 69th Streets and between Beach 87th and 92nd Streets.
