School-zone speed camera tickets, by intersection

Since August 1, 2022, New York City's school-zone speed cameras have issued tickets 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year, whether or not school is in session.

The speed

More than 10 mph over the posted limit

The fine

$50, by the Department of Finance's list of violation codes

Who pays

The vehicle's owner

A speed camera ticket adds no points to the owner's driving record and is not used for insurance purposes.

State law allows speed cameras only in school speed zones, within a quarter mile of a school building.

Signs warn drivers that the limit there is photo-enforced. The program was extended in June 2025 and now runs to July 1, 2030. No ticket names the school a camera serves, so this page does not guess at it.

A Notice of Liability must be answered within 30 days, by paying it or by disputing it online or by mail.

The Department of Finance hears a dispute on grounds such as:

• the camera having caught another vehicle
• a camera malfunction
• a vehicle that had been reported stolen

Queens had the most school-zone speed camera tickets in 2025, over a third of those counted here, and Brooklyn the most corners with them.

One corner stands apart: North Conduit Avenue & 88th Street in Queens had nearly twice as many tickets in 2025 as any other.

North Conduit Avenue & 88th Street, Queens

101,974 tickets, close to 280 a day

Bruckner Boulevard & White Plains Road, the Bronx

53,903 tickets, the next on the list

In 2025, many of the corners with the most tickets sat on wide roads beside or under highways:

• North Conduit Avenue, along the Belt Parkway
• Bruckner Boulevard, beneath the Bruckner Expressway
• Hamilton Avenue, below the Gowanus Expressway

The ten busiest corners took 10.8% of the tickets counted here in 2025. So the tickets are spread along a long list, rather than bunched at a handful of hot spots: the middle corner on it had 702.
