Westerleigh grew from land the National Prohibition Party bought in 1887 for Prohibition Park, a campground open by July 1888; many of its streets honor Prohibition movement leaders and states that backed anti-liquor laws, and part of the grounds, given to the City in 1907, is now Westerleigh Park. Castleton Corners, called Centreville in the 1850s, had its present name by the 1870s, and its castle-style cavalry armory of 1926-27 is a city landmark.
