Bulls Head is named for an 18th-century tavern that displayed a bull's-head sign, and New Springville for local freshwater springs; both stayed largely rural until the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge opened in 1964. Travis, named for Jacob Travis, was called Linoleumville after the nation's first linoleum factory opened there in 1873, and its Fourth of July parade has marched along Victory Boulevard since 1911. The plain 1849 Asbury Methodist Church on Richmond Avenue is a city landmark.
