Great estates once covered this district; the Rosebank name came into use around 1880, as Italian immigrants began to settle there. Shore Acres takes its name from an enclave of homes built in the 1930s, and most of Park Hill was built in the 1960s as six-story brick apartment buildings. Rosebank is known for the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum and the Alice Austen House, a Dutch farmhouse first built in 1690 that is now a museum and National Historic Landmark.
